Professional Editor and Writer

According to Wikipedia, "Editing is the process of preparing language, images, or sound for presentation through correction, condensation, organization, and other modifications." For me as a writer, editing is one of the most important things I do. I may come up with a great idea, but if I can't communicate that idea clearly and concisely to my reader, as well as in an entertaining way, than it doesn't matter how good the idea is. With my editing services, I want to help you produce the best work possible.

What services do you offer?
I edit copy, proof read, write, critique and offer suggestions for revision. I understand that every writer has a style of his or her own; and it's my goal to offer you my services without infringing upon your voice or style.

Are your services only for taphophiles (cemetery lovers)? Do you work with others?
My services are available to anyone. I offer my services specially for taphophiles because I am one. I also know that while we cemetery lovers have tombstones in common, not everyone necessarily has a love of grammar. That's not to say I'm not happy to help anyone in need of editing services for an important project.

What is copy editing?
Copy editing entails the correction of:
- Grammar (language rules)
- Spelling
- Punctuation
- Syntax (sentence construction)
- Capitalization
- Usage

What doesn't copy editing include?
While I will help make your written copy clear and concise, I will not rewrite your work or change the style. It's your work, and it will remain so. If you have any questions about the suggestions I make, I will be happy to discuss them with you.

What types of projects do you work on?
I will be glad to assist you with:
- Books
- Essays
- Articles
- Memoirs
- Chap books (shorter books)
- Poetry books
- Transcription
- Indexing
- Photo books

Do you offer any design or publishing services?
Yes. While I am a writer by trade, I am also a self-taught designer for small projects. If you have a small book that needs to be designed, I would be happy to assist you with it. To see my design work, check out Epitaphs Magazine (starting with issue #5) or the book "Life in Parts: An Interpretation from the Cemetery." You can see samples of these projects at Lulu.com.

While I am not a publisher, I can help you self-publish your project through an online service (if I am also the one to design your project). I am well-versed with such sites as Lulu.com and CafePress.com. Lulu.com allows authors to upload their own works to sell through Lulu.com without charging set-up fees. You may create keepsake books or sell your book to the public. For a nominal fee, I will be happy to assist you in setting up an account and processing your book, magazine, etc., with one of these sites so that you have access to your finished project and may also sell it online.

Why do you focus on taphophiles (cemetery lovers)?
Cemeteries are my passion, and my personal work revolves around them. Through this passion, I've met many people who share this love and respect for our outdoor museums. Because I know the love and care that goes into a cemetery-related project (whether a personal family project or a full-blown book about an entire cemetery or region of cemeteries), I will treat your cemetery or genealogy work with the respect it deserves.

What are your qualifications?
I have been working professionally as a writer and editor for more than 10 years. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1994 and have continued my education in writing, communication and marketing ever since. The tools I use include PhotoShop and Swift Publisher.

I am the founder and editor of Epitaphs Magazine, which began in 2005. My first book "Cemetery Walk" was also published in 2005, and I recently self-published a photography book titled "Life in Parts: An Interpretation from the Cemetery."

What are your fees?
Each project is unique, but I keep my fees reasonable because I know that most cemetery-related projects are labors of love (meaning not a lot of money or funding is involved). Send me an e-mail detailing your project, and I will send you a price quote. A good rule of thumb is 1 cent per word; but, again, this will depend on the project. Indexing, since it's a time-consuming project, is a separate charge.
