I know markers made of wood are quickly disappearing, so I was thrilled to see not two, but five in this cemetery in central New Jersey. The cemetery also had numerous field stone markers. This particular cemetery was established in 1810.

The front left marker is that of one of the original pilgrims from the Mayflower. To his right is his second wife. The stones are located in Old Burying Point in Salem.

This stone is located in South Burying Point in Billerica, Massachusetts (which is north of Boston). The rusty pieces of metal you see where 1800s attempts at slate stone preservation.

This stone featuring a beautifully detailed ship is located in Bowditch Cemetery in Maine, off of Route 1. The captain who this stone is for is not actually buried here. As with most sea captains, he was lost at sea.
